The Frederick W. and Grace P. Brecht Scholarship is a meritbased award that supports undergraduate students pursuing studies in the liberal arts and sciences. Established in 1998 by the philanthropic couple Frederick W. Brecht, a retired engineer, and his wife Grace P. Brecht, a former educator, the scholarship reflects their lifelong belief that a broad-based education cultivates critical thinking, civic responsibility, and personal growth.

Applications are accepted annually from January 1 to March 31. The process consists of the following steps:
Students create an account on the scholarship portal, providing personal information, academic transcripts, and a rsum.
A 500word essay answering the prompt: How will the Brecht Scholarship enable you to achieve your academic and career goals, and how do you plan to give back to your community?
Two letters are required: one from a faculty member familiar with the applicants academic work and one from a community leader or supervisor who can speak to the applicants service and leadership.
Applicants must upload a recent FAFSA report or an equivalent document demonstrating financial need.
A shortlist of candidates may be invited to a virtual interview with a selection committee member.
All materials must be submitted electronically via the portal. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

The committee evaluates each applicant based on academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, and the clarity of the personal statement. Decisions are announced by May 15, and awards are disbursed at the beginning of the fall semester.
