Overview
The International University of Japan (IUJ) offers a comprehensive scholarship programme to attract talented graduate students from around the world. Scholarships are granted on the basis of academic merit, professional experience, leadership potential, and alignment with IUJs mission of fostering international understanding and global business leadership.
The guidelines below outline who can apply, the categories of scholarships available, the application steps, and the responsibilities of scholars once they receive the award.
Eligibility
All applicants must meet the following core requirements:
Be admitted to a fulltime masters or Ph.D. programme at IUJ.
Hold a bachelors degree (or equivalent) from a recognised institution.
Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) at the time of scholarship consideration.
Demonstrate proficiency in English (TOEFL iBT 80, IELTS 6.0, or equivalent).
Possess a valid passport for the duration of the study period.
Submit all required documents by the specified deadline.
International students from any country are eligible, provided they meet the academic criteria.
Types of Scholarships
IUJ classifies its scholarships into three main categories:
1. MeritBased Scholarships
Awarded to candidates with outstanding academic records, research potential, or professional achievements. The amount typically covers tuition and a monthly stipend.
2. NeedBased Scholarships
Provided to students who can demonstrate genuine financial hardship. These scholarships may cover tuition, living expenses, or both, depending on the level of need.
3. SpecialPurpose Scholarships

Application Process
Admission Application: Submit an IUJ programme application via the online portal.
Scholarship Form: After receiving an admission offer, complete the scholarship application form attached to the admission portal.

Official academic transcripts
Two letters of recommendation (academic or professional)
Personal statement (500800 words) describing goals, achievements, and how the scholarship will help you.
Proof of English proficiency
Financial documents (for needbased applicants)
Submission Deadline: Scholarships must be applied for no later than June 30 for the fall intake and November 30 for the spring intake.
Review & Notification: The Scholarship Committee reviews all applications and notifies successful candidates within eight weeks of the deadline.
Selection Criteria
The Committee evaluates applications using a weighted rubric:
Academic excellence 35%
Professional experience & leadership 25%
Alignment with IUJs international focus 20%
Financial need (if applicable) 10%
Quality of personal statement & recommendations 10%
Applicants are scored individually; the highestscoring candidates receive awards up to the available budget.
Benefits & Coverage
Depending on the scholarship category, the following may be included:
Full tuition waiver (up to 2,500,000 per academic year)
Monthly living stipend ( 150,000)
Travel allowance for roundtrip airfare (once per academic year)
Health insurance premium coverage
Research grant for dissertation or project work (selected scholarships)
All benefits are disbursed directly by IUJ according to the universitys payment schedule.
PostAward Obligations
Academic Progress: Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 each semester.
Attendance: Attend at least 80% of scheduled classes and required workshops.
Reporting: Submit a quarterly progress report to the Scholarship Office.
Service: Participate in at least one IUJ community or outreach activity per semester.
Return of Funds: If the scholarship is terminated due to academic or conduct violations, the student must repay any unearned stipend or travel allowance.

Can I apply for a scholarship before I am admitted?
No. Scholarship applications are accepted only after you receive an admission offer from IUJ.
Are parttime students eligible?
Scholarships are limited to fulltime enrolment. Parttime candidates may be considered for specialpurpose scholarships on a casebycase basis.
What happens if my visa is delayed?
