J.O.McClurkan Academic Scholarship

The J.O.McClurkan Academic Scholarship is a meritbased award established to recognize and support exceptional students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to community service. Since its inception, the scholarship has helped hundreds of scholars pursue higher education without the burden of financial constraints.

History & Purpose

The scholarship was founded in 1998 by the late Dr. James O. McClurkan, a distinguished educator and philanthropist who believed that education is the most powerful catalyst for personal and societal transformation. Dr. McClurkans original endowment was intended to honor his legacy by supporting bright, motivated students at all levels of postsecondary study.

Key objectives of the scholarship include:

  • Encouraging academic rigor and intellectual curiosity.

  • Reducing financial barriers to higher education.
  • Creating a network of alumni who give back to future scholars.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States (or eligible international student as defined by the host institution).
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Be enrolled fulltime in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Demonstrate leadership through extracurricular activities, volunteer work, or campus involvement.
  • Submit a personal essay (500800 words) describing academic goals, career aspirations, and how the scholarship will impact the applicants future.
  • Provide two letters of recommendationone from an academic instructor and one from a community or professional mentor.
  • Agree to participate in annual scholarship events and mentorship programs.

Application Process
