Overview
The PFLAG Springfield 2022 Scholarship is a communitybased award that supports LGBTQ+ youth who are pursuing postsecondary education. Established by the local PFLAG chapter, the scholarship aims to reduce financial barriers, affirm identity, and encourage academic achievement. Each year a small number of scholarships are granted to highschool seniors or current college students who demonstrate a commitment to education, community service, and LGBTQ+ advocacy.
Funding for the scholarship comes from donations, local business partners, and fundraising events such as the annual Pride Parade and the Rainbow Run. The 2022 cycle received $12,000 in contributions, allowing five recipients to receive $2,400 each.
