Unite Foundation Scholarship

Empowering talented students from disadvantaged backgrounds

About the Unite Foundation Scholarship

The Unite Foundation Scholarship is a national programme that provides fully funded university places for highpotential students from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Established by the Unite Students group of landlords, the scholarship aims to remove financial barriers and create a more inclusive highereducation sector.

Since its launch, the scholarship has supported thousands of students across a wide range of subjects and universities, enabling them to focus on their studies without the stress of tuition fees, accommodation costs, or living expenses.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for a Unite Foundation Scholarship, applicants must meet the following core criteria:

  • Residency: Be a UK resident (or have settled status) at the point of application.
  • Education Level: Be applying for an undergraduate degree (firstyear or direct entry into the second year where appropriate).
  • Disadvantaged Background: Meet at least one of the following:
    • Household income below 25,000 per annum.
    • Eligibility for free school meals, Pupil Premium, or universal credit.
    • Living in a lowincome household where adults are unemployed or in parttime work.
  • Academic Potential: Demonstrate strong academic achievement (e.g., Alevels, BTEC, International Baccalaureate) or potential as shown by personal statements and references.
  • University Choice: Apply to a participating university that has a Unite Foundation Scholarship slot for the chosen course.

Specific degrees (especially those in highdemand fields such as engineering, health sciences, and computing) may have additional selection criteria, but the above are the baseline requirements.

What the Scholarship Covers

The scholarship is a fully funded package, which typically includes:

  • Tuition fees for the entire duration of the degree.
  • Accommodation costs (often a guaranteed university hall room).
  • Living allowance to help with food, transport, and study materials.
  • Additional support services, such as mentorship, career guidance, and enrichment activities.

Recipients also become part of the Unite Foundation community, gaining access to a network of alumni, peer mentors, and optional workshops designed to enhance personal and professional development.

Application Process

Applying for the Unite Foundation Scholarship involves three main stages:

  1. University Application: Submit an UCAS application to a participating university and select the Unite Foundation Scholarship as a funding option.
  2. Scholarship Form: Complete the online Unite Foundation application, which asks for personal details, education history, and information about your socioeconomic background.
  3. Selection: Universities review applications, shortlist candidates, and may conduct interviews or request additional documentation.

Key dates (subject to change each academic year) are usually:

  • UCAS application deadline: 15 January (for most courses).
  • Scholarship application opening: early October.
  • Final decision release: between March and May.

Successful applicants will receive an offer letter outlining the scholarship terms and the next steps.
