Overview
The 2022 Graduate Research Stipend Scholarship (GRSS) is a nationallyrecognised award designed to support outstanding graduate students pursuing fulltime research degrees in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, health and social sciences. Funded by a coalition of universities, research institutes and private partners, the scholarship seeks to attract talented scholars, reduce financial barriers, and foster innovative research that contributes to economic growth and societal wellbeing.
Each award provides a fixed annual stipend, tuition remission, and a modest research allowance. Since its launch in 2018, the GRSS has granted over 1,500 scholarships, helping recipients publish highimpact papers, secure conference travel, and build professional networks.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must satisfy all of the following conditions:
- Be enrolled in a fulltime graduate research program (Masters by research or PhD) at an accredited university in the participating country.
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 or equivalent in the most recent academic year.
- Demonstrate a strong research proposal aligned with one of the scholarships thematic priorities (e.g., Sustainable Energy, Digital Health, Climate Adaptation, Social Innovation).
- Be a citizen or permanent resident of the host country; international students may apply if they hold a valid study visa.
- Not hold another major external scholarship covering the same expenses for the award year.

The GRSS package is designed to cover both living costs and research needs:
- Annual Stipend: $25,000 payable in monthly installments.
- Tuition Waiver: Full remission of tuition fees for the award year.
- Research Allowance: $2,000 per year for equipment, software licences, or data purchase.
- Professional Development: Access to workshops, mentorship programmes and conference travel grants (up to $1,500 per year).
- Networking Opportunities: Invitation to the annual GRSS Fellows Symposium.
Application Process
Follow these steps to submit a complete application:
- Create an account on the official scholarship portal.
- Upload a scanned copy of your most recent academic transcript.
- Submit a 2,000word research proposal that includes background, objectives, methodology, expected outcomes, and a timeline.
- Provide two academic references (preferably one from your primary supervisor).
- Attach a CV highlighting academic achievements, publications, presentations, and relevant work experience.
- Complete the online eligibility questionnaire.
- Pay the nonrefundable processing fee of $50 (waived for applicants with documented financial hardship).
- Click Submit and note the confirmation number for future correspondence.
All documents must be in PDF format and not exceed the specified file size limits. Incomplete applications will be automatically disqualified.
