About the Scholarship

The AGBU Helen C. Evans Scholarship was established by the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) in honor of Helen C. Evans, a distinguished advocate for Armenian culture and education. The award is designed to support students of Armenian descent who wish to pursue higher education in fields that will contribute to the advancement of the Armenian community worldwide.

Since its inception, the scholarship has enabled dozens of bright young Armenians to attend universities in the United States, Canada, Europe, and beyond. Each recipient is recognized not only for academic excellence but also for their commitment to preserving Armenian heritage, leadership, and service.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Be of Armenian descent (full or partial).
  • Be accepted or intend to enroll in an accredited college or university (undergraduate or graduate).
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to community service, especially activities related to Armenian culture, heritage, or philanthropy.
  • Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or international student with a valid visa.
  • Submit a signed statement confirming that the scholarship funds will be used exclusively for tuition, fees, books, and required academic expenses.

Scholarship Benefits

The Helen C. Evans Scholarship provides the following financial support:

  • Up to $5,000 per academic year for undergraduate students.
  • Up to $10,000 per academic year for graduate students.
  • Renewable for up to four years, provided the recipient maintains eligibility.
  • Opportunities to connect with AGBU alumni and mentors.
  • Eligibility for exclusive AGBU leadership workshops and cultural events.

Application Process

Follow these steps to apply for the Helen C. Evans Scholarship:

  1. Gather Required Documents: Official transcripts, a copy of your acceptance letter, a personal essay (500800 words), a letter of recommendation from a faculty member or community leader, and proof of Armenian heritage.
  2. Complete the Online Form: Visit the AGBU scholarship portal and fill out the application form. Be sure to doublecheck all contact information.
  3. Upload Documents: Attach all required PDFs in the designated sections of the portal.
  4. Submit Before the Deadline: Applications are accepted annually from January 1 to March 31. Late submissions will not be considered.
  5. Interview (if selected): Shortlisted candidates may be invited to a virtual interview with the scholarship committee.
  6. Notification: Successful applicants are notified by email in early May. Funding is disbursed directly to the institution at the start of each semester.
