All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination

Introduction

The All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE) is the gateway for admission to the prestigious network of Sainik Schools across India. Established under the Ministry of Defence, Sainik Schools aim to prepare young minds academically and physically for a career in the Indian Armed Forces while imparting a high standard of general education.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

  • Age between 10years and 12years as on 31July of the admission year.
  • Passed ClassV examination of a recognized board (or equivalent).
  • Physical standards as defined by the Ministry of Defence (no major disabilities).
  • Indian citizenship (NRIs and OCI cardholders are not eligible).

Exam Pattern & Syllabus

The AISSEE is a written test conducted in multiple centres across India. It consists of three sections, each carrying equal marks.

1. Mathematics

30 multiplechoice questions, 60 minutes, total 100 marks.

  • Number System, Fractions, Decimals, Percentages
  • Arithmetic LCM, HCF, Ratio & Proportion, Simple & Compound Interest
  • Algebra Basic equations, Linear expressions
  • Geometry Lines, angles, triangles, circles, basic constructions
  • Mensuration Area & volume of plane and solid figures

2. General Knowledge (GK)

30 objective questions, 45 minutes, 100 marks.

  • Current affairs (national & international) of the last 12 months
  • History Indian independence movement, major wars, freedom fighters
  • Geography Physical, political & economic features of India and the world
  • Science Basic concepts of Physics, Chemistry, Biology
  • Sports Major events, records and Indian sports personalities
  • Indian Polity Constitution basics, important amendments

3. English Language

30 multiplechoice questions, 45 minutes, 100 marks.

  • Reading comprehension
  • Grammar Tenses, prepositions, conjunctions, subjectverb agreement
  • Vocabulary Synonyms, antonyms, idioms
  • Sentence improvement & error detection

Application Process

  1. Online Registration Visit the official AISSEE website, create an account and fill in personal details.
  2. Upload Documents Scanned copies of ClassV mark sheet, birth certificate, passportsize photograph and signature.
  3. Pay Fee Application fee (500 for General/OBC, 250 for SC/ST) can be paid through net banking, credit/debit card or UPI.
  4. Print Admit Card Download the hallticket 1012 days before the exam date.

Preparation Tips

Start early. Build a study schedule that covers all three sections. Consistency is more important than cramming.

  • Study material Use NCERT books for Mathematics and Science, a good GK handbook, and an English grammar workbook.
  • Previous year papers Solve at least the last five years question papers to understand pattern and difficulty.
  • Mock tests Take timed online tests weekly to improve speed and accuracy.
  • Physical fitness Include a daily routine of running, pushups, and stretching to meet the physical standards.
  • Current affairs Read a reputable newspaper daily and maintain a scrapbook of important events.

Result & Admission Process

Results are released on the official portal as a merit list based on total marks obtained in the three sections. Candidates who clear the cutoff are called for a personal interview and a medical examination. The final merit for admission is calculated as follows:

  • Entrance examination score 70%
  • Interview (personality test) 10%
  • Medical fitness 20%

Seats are allotted according to the candidates rank, preferences, and availability in each Sainik School.

FAQs

1. Can a student appear for AISSEE more than once?

Yes. There is no restriction on the number of attempts, provided the age and educational criteria are satisfied each time.

2. What is the age cutoff for 2025?

Born between 1August2012 and 31July2014 (inclusive) will be eligible.

3. Are there any reservations?

Yes. 15% seats are reserved for SC, 7.5% for ST, and 27% for OBC as per government policy. A small percentage is also set aside for defencepersonnel wards.

4. How is the medical test conducted?

After selection, candidates undergo a comprehensive physical examination at a designated Defence Hospital. Parameters include vision, hearing, height, weight, and overall health.

5. What happens after admission?

The student joins the chosen Sainik School in July, begins the sixyear programme (ClassVIXII), and follows a curriculum that blends academics, sports, and military training.
