Overview
The Baxter & Woodman Engineering Scholarship is a prestigious award that recognizes and supports outstanding undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in engineering disciplines. Established by Baxter & Woodman, a leading firm in civil, mechanical, and environmental engineering, the scholarship aims to foster academic excellence, promote innovation, and encourage the next generation of engineers to address global challenges.
Since its inception in 2005, the scholarship has helped more than 500 students finance their education, complete research projects, and gain professional experience through internships and mentorship programs. Each year, a competitive selection process identifies candidates who demonstrate strong academic performance, leadership potential, and a genuine commitment to the engineering profession.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. in an engineering field (e.g., civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical, environmental, computer, aerospace).
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.
- Demonstrated leadership through extracurricular activities, volunteer work, or professional organizations.
- Must submit an official transcript, a personal essay (500800 words), and at least one letter of recommendation from a faculty member or employer.
- Applicants must not be receiving another scholarship that covers the same expenses.
What the Scholarship Covers
Recipients receive a renewable award of $5,000 per academic year, renewable for up to four years provided they maintain a minimum 3.2 GPA. The funds can be applied to tuition, fees, books, laboratory supplies, and research expenses. In addition to the monetary award, scholars gain access to:
- Summer internships with Baxter & Woodman engineers.
- Mentorship from senior staff members.
- Invitation to an annual scholarship symposium where scholars present their projects and network with industry leaders.
- Professional development workshops on project management, ethics, and emerging technologies.
How to Apply
Applications are accepted annually from January1 to March31. Follow these steps to submit a complete application:
- Create an account on the scholarship portal.
- Upload an uptodate official transcript.
- Write a personal essay answering the prompt: Describe a engineering challenge you are passionate about and how you plan to address it.
- Request a recommendation letter from a professor or employer and provide their contact information.
- Complete the online application form and review all entries.
- Submit your application and note the confirmation number.
All documents must be in PDF format and each file should not exceed 5MB.
