About the Journal
The Canadian Journal of Midwifery Research and Practice (CJMRP) is a peerreviewed, openaccess platform dedicated to advancing knowledge in midwifery across Canada and internationally. Established in 2015, the journal provides a scholarly venue for clinicians, educators, policy makers, and researchers to share evidencebased findings, innovative practices, and critical reflections that improve maternal and newborn health outcomes.
CJMRP is published quarterly by the Canadian Association of Midwives (CAM) and adheres to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) standards. All articles are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution (CCBY) license, ensuring unrestricted distribution and reuse with appropriate credit.
Scope & Topics
The journal welcomes submissions that explore any aspect of midwifery care, education, and policy. Core areas include:
- Clinical practice and outcomes for lowrisk and highrisk pregnancies
- Communitybased and collaborative models of care
- Maternal mental health and postpartum support
- Indigenous midwifery and culturally safe practices
- Education, competency assessment, and lifelong learning for midwives

- Policy analysis and advocacy related to midwifery regulation
- Technology and innovation in prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care
- Global health perspectives that inform Canadian practice
Both quantitative and qualitative research, systematic reviews, case studies, and practice guidelines are considered. The journal also features commentaries, editorials, and letters that stimulate professional dialogue.
Submission Process
Authors submit manuscripts through the online editorial system (submission.cjmpr.org). The process includes:
- Presubmission checklist: Ensure compliance with the author guidelines, ethical standards, and formatting requirements.
- Manuscript upload: Provide the main text, figures, tables, and a cover letter describing the significance of the work.
- Peer review: Each manuscript undergoes doubleblind review by at least two experts. Reviewers assess originality, methodological rigor, relevance, and clarity.
- Decision: Authors receive one of the following outcomes acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection.
- Publication: Accepted articles are copyedited, proofread, and published online within four weeks of final approval.
The journal encourages authors to register their research with the Open Science Framework and to share data sets when possible, promoting transparency and reproducibility.

CJMRP is overseen by a multidisciplinary editorial team representing academic institutions, health authorities, and community midwifery practices from coast to coast. The board includes:
