Study Exchange Program

Program Overview

The Catholic University of Korea (CUK) has built a vibrant international community through its Study Exchange Program. Open to undergraduate and graduate students from partner institutions worldwide, the program offers a semester or a full academic year of study in Seoul, one of Asias most dynamic cultural hubs.

Participants register for courses taught in English or Korean, gain exposure to cuttingedge research, and experience Korean culture through campus activities, language workshops, and city excursions. Credits earned at CUK are transferred back to the home university, fulfilling degree requirements while broadening academic horizons.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Current enrollment in a recognized university with a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 (or equivalent).
  • Completed at least one academic year of study before the exchange semester.
  • Proficiency in English (IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 80) for Englishtaught courses; basic Korean (TOPIKLevel1) is recommended for Koreantaught courses.
  • Good standing with your home institution and the ability to obtain a CUK acceptance letter.
  • Adequate health insurance coverage for the duration of the stay.

Application Process

1. Explore Options

Review the academic calendar, course catalogue, and housing information on the CUK website. Identify the semester (Fall, Spring, or Summer) that matches your home institutions schedule.

2. Obtain HomeUniversity Approval

Submit a Study Abroad Plan to your academic advisor. Secure a Letter of Approval confirming credit recognition and any required preapproval forms.

3. Submit CUK Application

Complete the online exchange application (available through the CUK International Office portal). Required documents include:

  • Official transcript (English translation if needed)
  • Proof of English/Korean proficiency
  • Letter of Approval from home university
  • Copy of passport (first page)
  • Personal statement (500word essay describing goals)
  • Two academic references

4. Receive Acceptance Letter

Successful candidates receive an official acceptance letter, a Visa Issuance Confirmation (VIC) number, and enrollment instructions. The decision is typically communicated within 68 weeks of submission.

5. Visa & PreDeparture

Apply for a D2 student visa at the nearest Korean embassy using the acceptance letter and VIC. Attend the mandatory predeparture orientation (online) covering health, safety, and cultural adjustment.

6. Arrival & Registration

Upon arrival in Seoul, register at the International Office, collect your student ID, and enroll in chosen courses through the universitys portal.

Scholarships & Funding

While tuition is waived for most exchange students (students pay only a nominal registration fee), living expenses in Seoul can be significant. CUK and partner institutions offer several financial supports:

  • CUK Global Exchange Scholarship Up to US$2,500 for outstanding applicants.
  • Government Grants Korean Governments GKS (Global Korea Scholarship) and equivalent homecountry grants.
  • PartnerUniversity Funding Many universities allocate funds for outbound exchange students; check with your home office.
  • Private Foundations Organizations such as the AsiaPacific Foundation provide meritbased awards.

Applicants should research eligibility deadlines early, as many scholarships close 34 months before the exchange semester begins.
