Understanding Peer Leadership

Peer leaders are the heartbeat of supportive school communities, bridging gaps between students, educators, and administrators.

What is Peer Leadership?

Peer leadership at the Center for Supportive Schools is a research-backed program that trains students to become compassionate leaders within their school communities. Our peer leaders serve as mentors, role models, and allies for fellow students, helping to create welcoming and supportive educational environments.

Through comprehensive training and ongoing support, peer leaders develop the skills needed to:

  • Facilitate meaningful group discussions on relevant topics
  • Provide peer support during challenging situations
  • Mentor younger students as they navigate academic and social challenges
  • Organize awareness campaigns on mental health, inclusivity, and wellness
  • Serve as liaisons between the student body and school administration
  • Lead by example through responsible behavior and positive decision-making

"Being a peer leader transformed my high school experience. I learned so much about empathy, communication, and leadershipskills that I use daily in college and beyond. The feeling of making a genuine difference in someone's life is indescribable."
