1. Overview

The CIB FOREX system is a comprehensive, webbased platform that enables corporate clients to execute foreignexchange transactions, manage currency exposure, and generate detailed reports. Built on a secure, multitier architecture, the solution integrates with existing treasury management systems via APIs and provides realtime market data, pricing, and connectivity to multiple liquidity providers.

  • Automated workflow for repetitive trades.
  • Granular permission controls for different user roles.
  • Comprehensive audit trail meeting regulatory standards.

2. Getting Started

2.1 Registration & Login

New users receive a unique client ID and a temporary password via encrypted email. After the first login, users must:

  1. Reset the password following the complexity rules (minimum 12 characters, at least one uppercase, one number, one special character).
  2. Set up twofactor authentication (2FA) using an authenticator app or SMS OTP.
  3. Review and accept the latest terms of service and privacy policy.

2.2 User Roles & Permissions

3. Trading Platform

3.1 Dashboard

The home screen presents a summary of:

  • Open positions and exposure by currency.
  • Recent trades with status indicators (Pending, Executed, Rejected).
  • Realtime bid/ask spreads for selected pairs.

3.2 Market Data

Market data is refreshed every second from the integrated liquidity pool. Users can customize the view by selecting additional currency pairs, setting alerts for specific price thresholds, and toggling between spot and forward curves.

3.3 Trade Execution Workflow

  1. New Trade Click New Trade and choose the instrument (Spot, Forward, Swap).
  2. Input Details Enter amount, currency pair, settlement date, and any optional notes.
  3. Pricing The system displays the prevailing rate, applicable spread, and total cost in the base currency.
  4. Confirmation Review all fields; click Confirm to send the order to the matching engine.
  5. Result A trade ticket appears with a unique reference number and status.
Warning: Once a trade is marked Executed, it cannot be altered. Use the Cancel button only while the status remains Pending.

4. Order Types

CIB FOREX supports the following order types:

  • Market Order: Immediate execution at the best available price.
  • Limit Order: Execution only when the market reaches a predefined price.
  • StopLoss Order: Automatically closes a position if the market moves against you by a set amount.
  • Forward Contract: Fixed rate agreed for settlement on a future date.
  • Swap: Simultaneous spot and forward transaction to manage rollover exposure.

4.1 Creating a Limit Order

To place a limit order, follow these steps:

  1. Select Limit Order from the order type dropdown.
  2. Enter the desired limit price and quantity.
  3. Optionally set a GoodTillDate (GTD) to define the orders lifespan.
  4. Confirm the order. It will appear in the Open Orders tab until filled or expired.

5. Risk Management

5.1 Exposure Limits

Administrators can configure percurrency and aggregate exposure limits. When a trade would breach a limit, the system automatically blocks the transaction and displays a warning message.

5.2 VaR & Stress Testing

Advanced users can generate ValueatRisk (VaR) reports and run stress scenarios. The steps are:

  1. Navigate to Analytics Risk Reports.
  2. Select the time horizon (e.g., 1day, 10day) and confidence level (e.g., 95%).
  3. Choose Historical or Monte Carlo method.
  4. Click Generate. Results are displayed in a chart and can be exported as PDF or Excel.
Regularly review VaR outputs to ensure that your hedging strategy remains within approved risk appetite.
