Cornerstone Family Healthcare WIC Program

Supporting healthy families through nutrition education, supplemental foods, and comprehensive services.

Program Overview

The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program is a federally funded initiative that provides nutrition assistance to lowincome pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and children up to age five. Cornerstone Family Healthcare has been a local WIC provider for more than 15 years, delivering personalized care that blends clinical services with practical nutrition support.

Our mission is simple: to empower families with the knowledge, resources, and confidence they need to make healthy food choices for themselves and their children. The program operates under the guidance of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and follows the latest evidencebased dietary guidelines.

Eligibility & Enrollment

Eligibility is determined by three key factors:

  • Category: Pregnant, postpartum (up to 6months after delivery), breastfeeding women, infants (birth to 12months), and children (15years).
  • Income: Household income at or below 185% of the Federal Poverty Level, or participation in other assistance programs such as SNAP, Medicaid, or TANF.
  • Nutritional Risk: A health professional must assess and confirm a risk related to nutrition, health, or development.

Enrollment is free and requires a brief appointment with a WIC nutritionist. Bring proof of income, identification, and any existing medical records for the child or mother.

Nutrition Services

Cornerstones WIC team provides a comprehensive suite of nutrition services, including:

  • Individualized Nutrition Counseling: Oneonone sessions tailored to each participants stage of life and health goals.
  • Growth Monitoring: Regular weight, length/height, and headcircumference measurements for infants and children.
  • Breastfeeding Support: Certified lactation consultants help with latch, milk supply, and returning to work.
  • Supplement Distribution: VitaminA for infants, ironfortified formula for breastfed infants, and ironfolic acid tablets for pregnant women.

All nutrition counseling is delivered by registered dietitians specialized in maternal and child health, ensuring culturally competent and evidencebased guidance.

Benefits & Food Packages

Qualified families receive a monthly food package designed to meet the USDA food package requirements. Packages are customized based on age, health status, and dietary preferences.

Typical Food Packages

  • Pregnant & Postpartum Women: Milk, cheese, eggs, whole grain cereals, beans, nuts, fruit, and vegetables. Additional items include ironrich foods and calciumrich dairy.
  • Infants (06months): Breast milk or formula (if not exclusively breastfed). No solid foods are provided before 6months.
  • Infants (712months): Ironfortified infant cereal, pureed fruits and vegetables, and a monthly supply of formula (if needed).
  • Children (13years): Milk, cheese, fruit, vegetables, whole grain bread or tortillas, peanut butter or other nut butters, and vitaminCrich juice.
  • Children (45years): Expanded selections include lean meats, whole grain pasta or rice, yogurt, and a larger variety of fresh produce.

The food package can be redeemed at any participating grocery store or at Cornerstones onsite pantry. Participants receive a WIC card or paper vouchers, depending on the stores system.
