Erasmus Mundus Master in Chemical NanoEngineering

Overview

The ErasmusMundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) in Chemical NanoEngineering is a twoyear, fullyscholarised programme that integrates nanotechnology, chemistry, and process engineering. It prepares graduates to design, model, and optimise nanoscale materials and processes for applications ranging from sustainable energy to advanced healthcare solutions.

Students follow a truly international curriculum, spending one semester in each of the partner institutions, gaining exposure to cuttingedge research facilities and multicultural research teams.

Programme Structure

The master consists of 120 ECTS divided into core modules, elective tracks and a research project (thesis). The typical flow is:

  • Semester1 Fundamentals Core courses on nanomaterials synthesis, thermodynamics, and transport phenomena.
  • Semester2 Specialisation Choose one of three tracks:
    • Energy & Environment
    • Biomedical NanoSystems
    • Advanced Manufacturing
  • Semester3 Integrated Lab & Internship Handson laboratory work plus a 3month industry internship.
  • Semester4 Thesis Independent research project carried out at one of the partner labs or a collaborating company.

The joint degree is offered by a network of four leading institutions, each contributing unique expertise:

  • cole Polytechnique (France) Biomedical nanosystems and drug delivery platforms.
  • Politecnico di Milano (Italy) Industrial scaleup, additive manufacturing, and process optimisation.

Students rotate through at least two of these campuses, gaining access to stateoftheart labs such as the Munich NanoFacility, Barcelonas Catalysis Hub, and the Milan Centre for Additive Manufacturing.

Admission Requirements

The programme targets highly motivated graduates (B.Sc. or equivalent) in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, physics or a closely related discipline.

Eligibility

  • Minimum 180ECTS (or equivalent) at undergraduate level.
  • Strong academic record (typically GPA3.0/4.0 or equivalent).
  • Proof of English proficiency (IELTS6.5 or TOEFL90).
  • Motivation letter (max500words) describing interest in nanoengineering and career goals.
  • Two academic references.
