Overview

The Esther Yewpick Lee Millennium Scholarship (EYMLS) was established in 2001 by the Lee Family Foundation to recognize and support outstanding students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to community service. The scholarship is awarded annually to a select group of highschool seniors and undergraduate students across a range of disciplines, with the goal of reducing financial barriers and encouraging future leaders to pursue their educational aspirations.

Key Fact: Since its inception, the scholarship has supported over 800 scholars, collectively contributing more than $10million toward tuition, books, and living expenses.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Academic Performance: Minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
  • Citizenship/Residency: Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, or Singapore.
  • Educational Level: Open to graduating highschool seniors and undergraduate students entering their sophomore or junior year.
  • Leadership & Service: Demonstrated involvement in extracurricular activities, community service, or leadership roles.
  • Financial Need: While not a strict requirement, applicants who can illustrate financial need may receive additional consideration.

Students pursuing any field of study are welcome, though applicants in STEM, education, public policy, and the arts are especially encouraged to apply.

Scholarship Benefits

The EYMLS provides a comprehensive package designed to ease the cost of higher education:

  • Annual Award Amount: $7,500 renewable for up to four years, contingent on maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Mentorship: Each scholar is paired with a professional mentor from the Lee Family network, offering guidance on academic and career development.
  • Leadership Workshops: Free access to annual leadership summits, networking events, and skillbuilding seminars.
  • Study Abroad Grants: An additional $2,000 grant is available for scholars who wish to study abroad for a semester or summer program.
  • Alumni Community: Lifetime membership in the EYMLS alumni association, providing peer support and professional connections.

Application Process

The application cycle runs from early November to late February each year. Follow these steps to submit a complete application:

Visit the official EYMLS portal, register with your email address, and set a secure password.

2. Complete the Online Form

  • Personal information (name, address, contact details).
  • Academic history (transcripts, GPA, standardized test scores).
  • Extracurricular and communityservice activities.
  • Two letters of recommendation (one academic, one personal).
  • Personal essay (1,0001,200 words) answering the prompt: How will the Esther Yewpick Lee Millennium Scholarship help you achieve your academic and career goals, and how do you plan to give back to your community?

3. Upload Supporting Documents

Accepted formats are PDF, DOCX, or JPG. Required files include:

  • Official highschool or college transcript.
  • Proof of citizenship/residency (passport, birth certificate, or permanent resident card).
  • Recommendation letters (uploaded directly by the recommenders via a secure link).
  • Optional portfolio (for art, design, or multimedia applicants).
