Background

On 5 March 2021, a broadbased General Knowledge Quiz was hosted by QuizMaster.org as part of its weekly Trivia Night series. The event attracted over 2,500 participants from 30 different countries, ranging from quiz enthusiasts to casual learners. The quiz was completely virtual, using a livestreamed platform with realtime answer submission.

Why 5March?

The date was chosen to coincide with the International Day of the Girl Child, bringing attention to educational equality. A special segment of the quiz was dedicated to womens achievements in science, sports and the arts, reinforcing the theme.

1. The Unexpected Winner

While many expected a seasoned quizteam to take the top spot, the title went to The Curious Cats, a group of three university students from Kenya. Their combined score of 98 out of 100 set a new record for the series.

2. The Toughest Question

The question that stumped the most participants was:

Which element, discovered in 1869, has the symbol Tm?

Only 12% answered correctly (Thulium). The question sparked a lively discussion in the chat about lesserknown elements.

3. The Photo Round Winner

Correctly identifying the hidden detail in a closeup of the Mona Lisas smile earned the first place in the picture round. The answer was The tiny gap in the background that reveals a faint smile of a secondary figure, a detail many art students recognized.
