Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan (GSSEM)
Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan (GSSEM) is a dedicated organization focused on building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. Serving girls in Oakland, Macomb, Genesee, Lapeer, St. Clair, Sanilac, and parts of Wayne, Monroe, and Livingston counties, the council provides a supportive environment where girls can discover their potential.
Our Mission and Values
The core mission of GSSEM is anchored in the Girl Scout Promise and Law. We strive to provide every girl in our region with the opportunity to develop leadership skills, foster new friendships, and engage in meaningful community service. Our programs are designed to meet girls where they are, helping them navigate the challenges of modern life while preparing them for future success.
Programs and Opportunities
GSSEM offers a wide variety of activities that cater to diverse interests and age groups:
- STEM Initiatives: From robotics and coding to environmental science and outdoor exploration, we encourage girls to pursue their passions in science, technology, engineering, and math.
- Entrepreneurship: Through the world-famous Girl Scout Cookie Program, girls learn essential life skills including goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics.
- Outdoor Adventures: Our camps and outdoor programs allow girls to connect with nature, build resilience, and develop confidence through hiking, archery, swimming, and more.
- Life Skills: We provide workshops and projects that focus on healthy living, financial literacy, and community advocacy.
Making an Impact
The influence of Girl Scouts extends far beyond troop meetings. Our members are active participants in their local communities, leading projects that address local needsranging from food drives and environmental cleanups to advocacy campaigns. By taking the lead, our scouts gain real-world experience that empowers them to become the next generation of community leaders.
Getting Involved
There are several ways to engage with the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan:
- Become a Girl Scout: Girls from grades K-12 are invited to join a troop and embark on their own leadership journey.
- Volunteer: Adult volunteers are the backbone of our organization. Whether you serve as a troop leader, program volunteer, or administrative assistant, your time and talent directly impact the lives of girls.
- Support Us: Through donations and partnerships, community members can help ensure that every girl, regardless of her background, has access to the life-changing experience of Girl Scouting.
A Legacy of Empowerment
For over a century, the Girl Scout movement has been a catalyst for change. By joining GSSEM, girls are not just joining a club; they are becoming part of a global sisterhood that values inclusion, leadership, and service. We invite you to join us in supporting the next generation of women as they learn to lead, serve, and thrive.
