The Grass Roots 3 Bursary is a competitive scholarship program designed to empower emerging leaders, community organizers, and young professionals who demonstrate a strong commitment to social change. Who Should Apply?

The bursary targets individuals who meet the following criteria:

• Are between 18 and 30 years old.

• Are either currently enrolled in a recognized postsecondary program or actively engaged in a communitybased initiative.
• Demonstrate a clear vision for how the bursary will further personal development or the impact of a community project.

Eligibility

Applicants must satisfy all of the following conditions:

• Citizenship or permanent residency in the country where the bursary is offered.
• Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.8 (or equivalent) if currently studying.
• Provide proof of involvement in at least one volunteer or community activity within the past 12 months.
• Commit to completing a postbursary report within three months of receiving the award.

How to Apply

All applications must be completed online using the official Grass Roots 3 portal. Follow these steps:

1. Create an Account

Click Register on the portal homepage and provide a valid email address, a strong password, and your full name. You will receive a verification linkclick it to activate your account.

2. Complete the Personal Information Section

Fill in details such as date of birth, address, phone number, and emergency contact. This information is used only for communication and verification purposes.

3. Academic / Professional Details

Enter your current school or employer, program of study, expected graduation date, and any relevant certifications. Attach a scanned copy of your most recent transcript or a letter from your institution confirming enrollment.

4. Project or Study Proposal

Provide a concise (max 800 words) description covering:

• Background and need assessment.
• Specific objectives and expected outcomes.
• Methodology and timeline.
• Budget breakdown (the bursary covers up to $2,500).
• How the project aligns with Grass Roots 3s mission.

5. Personal Statement

Write a reflective essay (300500 words) explaining why you are a strong candidate, what leadership qualities you possess, and how the bursary will influence your future.

6. Recommendation Letters

Two references are required:

• A faculty or academic advisor.
• A community leader or supervisor familiar with your volunteer work.

Each recommender will receive an automated email with a unique link to upload a PDF letter (maximum 1MB).

7. Supporting Documents

Upload the following files in PDF format:

• Identity proof (passport or national ID).
• Proof of residence (utility bill or rental agreement).
• Most recent transcript or proof of enrollment.
• Any additional certifications relevant to your project.

8. Review & Submit

Selection Process

The selection committee evaluates applications based on four weighted criteria:

3. Leadership & Commitment (25%) Demonstrated past involvement and personal drive.
4. Academic/Professional Merit (20%) Academic performance and relevant experience.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a virtual interview (3045 minutes) where they will discuss their proposal in depth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply if Im not currently a student?

Yes. Nonstudents may apply if they are engaged in a clearly defined community project and can provide evidence of at least 50hours of volunteer work in the past year.

Is the bursary renewable?

The current cycle offers a onetime award. However, recipients who successfully complete their project and submit a strong postbursary report may be considered for future funding opportunities.

What if I need more than $2,500?

The bursary amount is fixed. Applicants needing additional resources are encouraged to seek complementary funding from local NGOs or crowdfunding platforms.

When will the funds be released?

The first installment (50%) is transferred within two weeks after the award announcement, contingent on receipt of signed agreement forms. The second installment is released upon submission of a progress report covering at least 50% of the project milestones.
