About HSPFPD
The Hellenic Sport Federation for Persons with Disabilities (HSPFPD) is the national governing body responsible for promoting, organizing, and developing sport for people with physical, intellectual, visual, and auditory impairments throughout Greece. Established in 2006, the Federation works closely with the Ministry of Sports, the Hellenic Paralympic Committee, and international bodies such as the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the International Federation of Adaptive Sports.
Its headquarters are located in Athens, but regional branches operate in all eight administrative regions, ensuring that athletes from every corner of the country have access to training facilities, qualified coaches, and competitive opportunities.

Mission: To empower individuals with disabilities through sport, fostering inclusion, health, personal development, and societal acceptance.
Vision: A Greece where every person with a disability can pursue sport at any level, from recreation to elite competition, and where sport serves as a catalyst for equal opportunities and social integration.
Core Activities
- National Championships: Annual events in athletics, swimming, wheelchair basketball, boccia, wheelchair rugby, and more.
- Talent Identification Programs: Schoolbased scouting and regional camps to discover young athletes.
- Coaching & Referee Education: Certified courses aligned with IPC standards.
- Rehabilitation Sports: Collaboration with hospitals and therapy centers to use sport as a therapeutic tool.
- Community Outreach: Awareness campaigns, inclusive school PE programs, and public seminars.
Athletes & Success Stories
Greek paraathletes have achieved remarkable results on the European, World, and Paralympic stages. Some notable figures include:
- Athanasia Papadopoulou Gold medalist in the 100m T12 (visually impaired) at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
- Giorgos Stavros Veteran wheelchair basketball player, captain of the national team that won silver at the 2023 European Championships.
- Maria Kouris Champion in paraswimming 50m freestyle S9, multiple world record holder.
- Ioannis Dimitriadis Pioneer in paraarchery, inspiring a new generation of athletes with upperlimb impairments.
These athletes not only bring medals home but also serve as ambassadors, visiting schools and community centers to motivate others to try sport.
