These materials provide a rigid, heavy core that is resistant to the impact of flying debris. When wood framing is used, it should be supplemented with robust structural sheathing, such as thick plywood or oriented strand board (OSB), nailed with increased frequency to handle the shear forces generated by hurricane-force winds.
