Understanding the Tasks
Task1 Letter Writing: You are given a situation and asked to write a letter (formal, semiformal or informal) of at least 150 words. Success depends on tone, correct formatting, and appropriate language.
Task2 Essay Writing: You must present a clear argument on a given topic, using at least 250 words. The essay is evaluated on task response, coherence, lexical resource, and grammatical range.

Task1 Letter Writing
- Identify the tone first formal, semiformal or informal and stick to it throughout.
- Follow the threeparagraph format: opening, body (usually 23 points), and closing.
- Use formulaic expressions (e.g., I am writing to inform you that, Looking forward to hearing from you).
- Mind the word count aim for 180200 words to give yourself a safety margin.
- Proofread quickly check for missing salutations, signoff, and punctuation.
Task2 Essay Writing
- Spend 5 minutes planning note the thesis, two or three main points, and supporting examples.
- Structure clearly: introduction, 23 body paragraphs, conclusion.
- Link ideas with cohesive devices (however, moreover, on the other hand).
- Address all parts of the question ensure you answer the prompt, give an opinion if required, and discuss both sides where applicable.
- Vary sentence structures combine simple, compound, and complex sentences to demonstrate range.
- Time management allocate ~40 minutes, leaving 5 minutes for a final check.
Sample Study Plan (4Week Sprint)
- Week1: Focus on Task1. Watch two tutorial videos daily, complete three sample letters, and get feedback via Write & Improve.
- Week2: Switch to Task2. Learn essay outline techniques, practice one timed essay every other day, review banddescriptor criteria.
- Week3: Mixed practice. Alternate between a letter and an essay every day. Start using Grammarly to spot recurring errors.
- Week4: Fullmock tests. Complete two complete writing sections under exam conditions. Spend the remaining days polishing weak areas identified in the mock.
Adjust the plan according to your personal schedule, but keep the balance between both tasks examiners evaluate them independently.
