About the INPEX Scholarship Foundation
The INPEX Scholarship Foundation (ISF) was established in 2010 by INPEX Corporation, one of Japans leading integrated energy companies. The foundations mission is to nurture talented students who demonstrate strong academic performance, a passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and a commitment to contributing to sustainable development.
Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than 2,000 scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students across Asia, the United States, and Europe. The program is designed not only to provide financial assistance but also to create a network of scholars who can share knowledge, collaborate on research, and become ambassadors for the energy industrys transition toward cleaner technologies.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following basic criteria:
Be enrolled in a fulltime undergraduate or graduate program in a field related to energy, engineering, natural sciences, environmental studies, or business.
Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
Be a citizen of an INPEX operating country (Japan, Indonesia, Australia, United States, Canada, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, or Singapore).
Demonstrate English proficiency (TOEFL iBT80 or IELTS6.5) for nonnative speakers.
Show a clear interest in sustainable energy and a willingness to engage with INPEX activities such as seminars, site visits, and community outreach.
International students studying outside their home country are also eligible, provided they meet the criteria above.
Scholarship Benefits
The ISF scholarship offers a combination of financial and professional support:
Annual stipend: Up to US$5,000 per academic year for tuition, books, or living expenses.
Research grant: Additional funds (up to US$2,000) for eligible research projects related to energy or sustainability.
Mentorship: Direct access to INPEX engineers and senior executives for career guidance.
Internship opportunities: Summer placements at INPEX offices or partner companies.
Networking events: Annual scholarship symposium, webinars, and alumni gatherings.
Career assistance: Resume workshops, interview preparation, and job placement support.
Note: Scholarships are renewable for up to three academic years, subject to satisfactory academic progress and continued involvement in program activities.
Application Process
The application cycle runs twice a year: Spring (JanuaryMarch) and Fall (JulySeptember). Follow these steps to apply:
Create an account on the ISF portal.
Complete the online form with personal details, academic records, and a short essay (500word limit) describing your career goals and how the scholarship will help you achieve them.
Upload supporting documents: transcript, proof of English proficiency, two recommendation letters (one academic, one professional), and a resume.
Submit a video statement (max 2 minutes) introducing yourself and explaining your interest in sustainable energy.
Review and confirm all information before final submission.
All applications are evaluated by a panel of INPEX executives and academic experts. Selection is based on academic excellence, leadership potential, relevance of the chosen field to the energy sector, and the quality of the personal statement.
