Course Overview
Designed for students who have completed a beginner program or have an equivalent knowledge of Hangul, basic grammar, and everyday vocabulary, the Intermediate Korean course deepens your understanding of Korean structures, expands your lexicon, and builds confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Over a 12week period, learners will encounter authentic materialsnews articles, short dramas, podcasts, and cultural essayswhile practicing the language in realistic contexts.
Learning Goals

- Expand active vocabulary to 1500+ words, focusing on daily life, work, travel, and current events.
- Improve listening comprehension to understand native speech without subtitles for 70% of the content.

- Develop cultural awareness through Korean customs, etiquette, media trends, and history.
Curriculum
Week 12: Review & Foundations
Quick refresher of Hangul, essential verb conjugations, and common beginner expressions. Diagnostic quizzes to personalize the learning path.
Week 34: Grammar Expansion I
Introduce connective endings (-, -, -/) and descriptive structures (-/ vs. -/). Practice through roleplays and short dialogues.
Week 56: Vocabulary & Listening
Topicbased word lists (food, transportation, health). Listening labs using Korean news clips and podcasts; transcription exercises to sharpen auditory discrimination.
Week 78: Grammar Expansion II
Complex sentence patterns: conditional (-, -), purpose (- ), and concession (-, -). Students write short opinion pieces.
Week 910: Speaking & Fluency
Pronunciation workshops focusing on intonation and liaison. Pair debates on current social topics; feedback from nativespeaker instructors.
Week 1112: Integration & Assessment
Capstone project: prepare a 5minute presentation or a 500word essay on a chosen Korean cultural subject. Final oral and written evaluations.
Teaching Methodology
The course combines communicative language teaching with taskbased learning. Each class follows a threestage structure:
- Input: Short, authentic audio/video material introduces new language.
- Practice: Controlled drills transition into freer, meaningfocused activities.
- Production: Learners use the target language to complete realworld tasks such as creating a travel itinerary, writing a restaurant review, or conducting a mock interview.
Technology plays a supporting role: a dedicated learning portal hosts flashcards, grammar reference sheets, and an online forum where students can ask questions and share resources. Weekly officehour video calls with the instructor provide personalized feedback.
