Supporting the next generation of agricultural leaders in Johnson County, Kansas.
The Johnson County Livestock & Agriculture Association (JCLAA) Scholarship was created to recognize and reward highschool students who have shown a strong commitment to agriculture, animal science, or related fields. Each year, the association awards up to $2,500 to eligible students who plan to pursue postsecondary education in an agricultural discipline.
All materials must be submitted electronically via the JCLAA online portal no later than April 15 of the senior year. Late applications will not be considered.
The JCLAA Scholarship Committee reviews each application based on academic achievement, involvement in agricultural activities, clarity of career goals, and the strength of recommendation letters. Finalists may be invited for a brief interview (inperson or virtual) before awards are announced.
Since its inception in 2010, the JCLAA Scholarship has enabled dozens of students to launch successful careers in agriculture.
Emily used her scholarship to attend Kansas State University, where she earned a B.S. in Animal Science. She now works as a livestock nutrition specialist for a regional feed company and volunteers as an FFA advisor at her former high school.
Marcus pursued a degree in Agribusiness Management at the University of Kansas. After graduation, he launched a sustainable farm-to-table operation that supplies local restaurants and schools. He credits the scholarship for covering his textbook costs and providing early professional connections.
Sarah earned a scholarship to attend a community college where she completed an Associates degree in Horticulture. She now works as a landscape designer for a municipal park system and plans to transfer to a fouryear program to become a certified horticulturist.
