About Our Department

Our Programs
BSc Geography
Our three-year BSc Geography offers a perfect blend of human and physical geography. You'll explore subjects ranging from climate change and geomorphology to urban development and population dynamics, developing a comprehensive understanding of our complex world.
BSc Environmental Science

Admissions
Entry Requirements
For our BSc Geography, BA Human Geography, and BSc Environmental Science programs, typical offers are AAB-ABB at A Level (or equivalent). For those not taking A Levels, we accept a wide range of qualifications including the International Baccalaureate, BTECs, and Access to Higher Education Diplomas. Geography A Level is preferred but not essential for BSc Geography and BA Human Geography.
For our MGeog program, typical offers are AAA-AAB at A Level (or equivalent). This program is particularly suitable for students with a strong academic record and interest in research.
For postgraduate taught programs, we require a good honors degree (usually 2:1 or above) in a relevant subject. Specific requirements vary by program, so please check individual course pages for details.
Personal Statement Advice
Your personal statement should demonstrate your genuine interest in geography or environmental science. Mention specific topics or aspects that fascinate you, any relevant reading you've done, and how your experiences have shaped your interest. Show us your enthusiasm and awareness of current issues in the field.
If you've had relevant work experience, participated in geography competitions, or undertaken relevant projects, tell us about them. We're particularly interested in your understanding of what studying geography or environmental science at university involves and how it relates to your future aspirations.
Fees and Funding
For the 2023/24 academic year, tuition fees for home students are 9,250 per year. International student fees are 22,650-24,650 per year depending on the program. Please note that fees may increase in subsequent years in line with inflation.
We offer a number of scholarships and bursaries to support our students. The Loughborough University Scholarship provides 1,000 per year for eligible home students. Excellence Scholarships of up to 25% off tuition fees are available for outstanding international students. Our department also offers specific awards for excellence in certain modules or fieldwork projects.
For UK students, maintenance loans and grants may be available through the government. Many of our students also take on part-time work, either on campus or in the local area, to supplement their income.
How to Apply
Applications for all undergraduate programs should be made through UCAS, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service. The institution code for Loughborough University is L79. For most programs, the course code varies depending on your chosen program (e.g., L800 for Geography, F850 for Environmental Science).
The UCAS application deadline for most courses is January 15th each year, though we continue to accept applications after this date for some courses. We encourage early application, particularly for competitive programs.
For postgraduate programs, applications are made directly to the university. You can apply online through our application portal and will typically need to submit transcripts, references, and a personal statement along with your application form.
