The Morley Stanwood High School (MSHS) Senior College & Vocational School Scholarship program is designed to help graduating seniors pursue postsecondary education that aligns with their career goals. Whether a student dreams of earning a university degree, attending a trade school, or completing a certification program, the scholarship offers financial assistance, mentorship, and resources to make those plans a reality.
Why the Scholarship Exists
Morley Stanwood High School has a long tradition of supporting students from diverse backgrounds. Many families in the surrounding community face financial barriers that limit access to higher education. The scholarship aims to:
- Reduce the cost of tuition, books, and supplies for eligible seniors.
- Encourage enrollment in both academic and vocational pathways.

Who Is Eligible?
Eligibility is straightforward but must meet a few core criteria:
- Graduating Senior: Must be a senior at Morley Stanwood High School, expected to graduate in the current academic year.
- Academic Standing: Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (C+). Exceptions may be considered for students with strong extracurricular achievements or extenuating circumstances.
- PostSecondary Intent: Applicant must have been accepted to, or be actively applying for, a recognized college, university, technical institute, or vocational training program.
- Financial Need: Demonstrated need through the FAFSA or a comparable financialaid form. The scholarship prioritizes families with an annual household income below $75,000.
- Community Service: Completion of at least 20 hours of community service or schoolbased volunteering during high school.
What the Scholarship Covers
The award can be used for a range of educational expenses, up to a maximum of $5,000 per student per academic year:
- Tuition and mandatory fees
- Books, lab supplies, or tradespecific equipment
- Transportation costs related to school attendance
- Technology (laptop, software) required for coursework
Additional $1,000 stipends are available for students entering fields identified as highneed by the local workforce, such as healthcare, advanced manufacturing, information technology, and renewable energy.
Application Process
- Obtain the Application: Download the PDF from the school website or collect a hard copy from the guidance office.
- Complete the Form: Provide personal details, academic records, a personal statement (500word limit), and proof of acceptance or pending admission.
- Financial Documentation: Submit a completed FAFSA (or state equivalent) and a copy of the latest tax return for the primary household earner.
- Recommendation Letters: Include two lettersone from a teacher and one from an employer, mentor, or community leader.
- Interview: Selected candidates will be invited to a brief interview (inperson or virtual) with the scholarship committee.
- Submission Deadline: All materials must be received by April 15 of the senior year.
Selection Committee & Criteria
The committee consists of five members: the principal, a guidance counselor, a local business representative, an alumni volunteer, and a parent of a former scholarship recipient. Applications are evaluated based on:
- Academic performance and trend
- Clarity and ambition expressed in the personal statement
- Demonstrated financial need
- Quality of recommendation letters
- Commitment to community service and future contribution to the local economy
Each year, up to ten scholarships are awarded. Successful applicants are announced at the senior awards ceremony in June and notified via email.
