Mother Teresa Womens University (MTWU) is a public university located in the heart of Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India. History
MTWU was formally inaugurated on 14 September 1997 by the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The idea of a womenonly university originated in the early 1990s when policymakers observed a growing demand for safe, supportive environments where women could pursue higher education without societal constraints.
- 1994: Proposal submitted to the State Government.
- 1996: Land allocation of 100 acres in the suburbs of Tirupati.
- 1997: Inauguration ceremony; first batch of 150 students admitted.
- 2002: Introduction of postgraduate programmes in Chemistry, Economics, and Computer Science.
- 2010: Launch of the Center for Womens Studies and Research.
- 2018: Accreditation by NAAC with an A grade.

Admissions Process
Admission to MTWU is meritbased and follows the guidelines prescribed by the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education. The key steps are:

- Eligibility Check: Minimum 50% aggregate in the qualifying examination for UG programmes; relevant degree for PG programmes.
