Mount Pearl Paradise Skating Club

Registration and Fees

1. All skaters must complete the registration process online through our club website.
2. Full payment or a valid payment plan is required at the time of registration.
3. Registration fees are non-refundable after the first week of the skating season, except in cases of medical emergencies with physician documentation.
4. A $35 administrative fee will be charged for all NSF cheques.
5. Annual Skate Canada fee of $40 is mandatory for all skaters and is non-refundable.

Attendance Requirements

1. Regular attendance is expected for all registered programs.
2. Please notify the club office in advance if your skater will be absent.
3. Consistent absences may affect group placement and progress assessments.
4. Skaters who miss more than 20% of classes without valid reason may not be eligible for year-end assessments.

Dress Code

1. All skaters must wear appropriate skating attire:
   • Canskate*: Helmets (CSA approved) are mandatory until Stage 5
   • Warm, flexible clothing (snow pants, sweaters, jackets)
   • Mittens or gloves
   • Skates properly tied
2. Junior/Senior Skaters:
   • Figure skating attire or athletic wear
   • Long hair must be secured away from the face
   • No jeans or street clothes permitted on the ice
3. Skates must be sharpened regularly for safety and optimal performance.
4. No gum chewing while on the ice.

Code of Conduct

1. All skaters, parents, and coaches must demonstrate respect, courtesy, and sportsmanship at all times.
2. Abusive language, bullying, or harassment will not be tolerated.
3. Skaters must follow instructions from coaches and arena staff promptly.
4. Damage to club property will be the financial responsibility of the individual causing the damage.
5. Any violations of the code of conduct may result in disciplinary action, including suspension from programs.

Safety Procedures

1. All skaters must wear approved helmets until reaching Stage 5 in the Canskate program.
2. In case of emergency, skaters must immediately stop and move to the boards as instructed by coaches.
3. Head injuries must be reported to the coaching staff and club office immediately.
4. No food or drinks (except water in plastic bottles) permitted on the ice surface.
5. No one is permitted on the ice without a coach present.
6. First aid kits are available at all coaching stations.

Parent/Guardian Responsibilities

1. Parents must ensure their child arrives on time for lessons.
2. Parents are not permitted on the ice or ice level during sessions unless specifically invited by a coach.
3. Parents should regularly check the club website and email communications for updates.
4. Questions or concerns should be directed to the club office in writing.
5. Pick up skaters promptly after their sessions.

Cancellations and Make-up Classes

1. Classes cancelled by the club (due to weather or facility issues) will be rescheduled when possible.
2. In the event of weather cancellations, notifications will be sent via email and posted on our website by 2:00 PM on weekdays and 7:00 AM on weekends.
3. Individual missed classes cannot be made up.

Photography and Videography Policy

1. Photography and videography during public sessions is permitted only for personal, non-commercial use.
2. Images must not be posted on social media without consent from the individuals featured or their parents/guardians.
3. Photography during competitions and test days may have additional restrictions that will be communicated in advance.
4. Flash photography is not permitted during skating sessions as it may be a safety hazard.

Awards and Assessment

1. Assessment in the Canskate program is continuous throughout the season.
2. Ribbons and badges are awarded as skills are mastered according to Skate Canada standards.
3. Annual assessment reports will be provided for all STARskate and Competitive skaters.
4. Skaters participating in competitions must commit to all associated rehearsal times.

Volunteer Requirements

1. Families with registered skaters are expected to contribute volunteer hours throughout the season.
2. Opportunities include carnival assistance, competition support, fundraising events, and committee participation.
3. A volunteer bond payment is required at registration, refundable upon completion of volunteer commitments.
4. Volunteer sign-up will be available through our online portal.

Communication

1. Official club communication will be primarily via email and our website.
2. Parents should ensure their email address is kept current in their registration profile.
3. Detailed monthly newsletters will be distributed via email.
4. Emergency contact numbers must be provided and kept current.

Facility Rules

1. No street shoes on the ice surface.
2. Parents and spectators must remain in designated viewing areas.
3. Only skaters and approved coaches are permitted in the dressing rooms.
4. All personal belongings should be stored in lockers or designated areas.
5. The club is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
