The MSc in Contemporary Chinese Studies offers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary understanding of modern Chinas political, economic, social and cultural dynamics. Curriculum

The programme is taught over one year fulltime or two years parttime. Students complete 180 credits, typically consisting of:

Admissions Requirements

We welcome applications from candidates with a recognised bachelors degree (minimum 2:2 UK equivalent) in any discipline. While a background in Asian studies is helpful, it is not mandatory. Successful applicants typically demonstrate:

• Strong academic record and critical thinking abilities
• Relevant work or research experience relating to China (internships, projects, publications)
• Proficiency in English (IELTS 6.5 overall, minimum 6.0 in each component)
• Basic Mandarin ability is advantageous but not required; language support is available
• A clear statement of purpose outlining research interests and career goals
