Neocate DHA & ARA Infant Formula Dilution Chart
Neocate DHA & ARA is a hypoallergenic, aminoacid based infant formula designed for babies with cowmilk protein allergy, multiple food protein intolerance, or other conditions that require a highly specialized nutrition. The formula contains added docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and arachidonic acid (ARA), essential longchain polyunsaturated fatty acids that support brain and eye development.
Why a Dilution Chart Is Needed
For newborns and very young infants, the recommended feeding volume is small, but the nutritional density of Neocate is high. To deliver the correct amount of nutrients and to avoid overconcentration, caregivers often need to prepare a diluted mixture, especially when the infant is less than 2 weeks old, has a reduced stomach capacity, or is on a feeding schedule that calls for smaller volumes per feed.
Understanding the Measurements
- Powder (g): The weight of Neonate DHA & ARA powder measured with a calibrated kitchen scale.
- Water (ml): Fresh, boiled and cooled water. The volume is measured with a standard measuring cup or a sterile syringe.
- Concentration (kcal/100ml): The energy content of the final mixture, useful for ensuring the infant receives the intended caloric intake.
Standard Feeding Guidance
The usual preparation for a fullstrength feed is 13g of powder to 150ml of water ( 68kcal/100ml). When dilution is required, the ratio changes while the total caloric delivery per feed remains consistent with the infants ageappropriate requirement.
Neocate DHA & ARA Dilution Chart
| Age / Weight Range | Recommended Feed Volume (ml) | Powder (g) | Water (ml) | Resulting Concentration (kcal/100ml) |
| 07days (3kg) | 30ml | 2g | 30ml | 68kcal/100ml |
| 12weeks (34kg) | 60ml | 4g | 60ml | 68kcal/100ml |
| 24weeks (45kg) | 90ml | 6g | 90ml | 68kcal/100ml |
| 12months (56kg) | 120ml | 8g | 120ml | 68kcal/100ml |
| 34months (67kg) | 150ml | 13g | 150ml | 68kcal/100ml |
| 56months (78kg) | 180ml | 13g | 180ml | 58kcal/100ml |
| 712months (810kg) | 210ml | 13g | 210ml | 48kcal/100ml |
*The table shows a gradual reduction in caloric density after the third month to match the decreasing need for concentrated nutrition as the infants stomach capacity increases. Adjustments should be made under the guidance of a pediatric dietitian or your childs physician.
StepbyStep Preparation Guide
- Wash your hands thoroughly and ensure all equipment (spoon, measuring cup, bottle) has been sterilized.
- Boil fresh water and allow it to cool to between 37C and 40C (body temperature). Too hot water can denature the DHA/ARA lipids.
- Measure the exact amount of Neocate DHA & ARA powder using a calibrated kitchen scale. Do NOT rely on scoop measurements alone.
- Dispense the measured water into the bottle, then add the powder.
- Close the bottle tightly and shake vigorously for at least 10 seconds until the mixture appears homogenous. No clumps should remain.
- Check the temperature by placing a few drops on the inside of your wrist it should feel warm, not hot.
- Label the bottle with the preparation time and feed volume. Use within 1 hour of preparation; discard any leftovers.
Common Questions
Can I use filtered water instead of boiled water?
Yes, if the filtered water meets local safety standards and is free from chlorine or heavy metals. However, boiling is still recommended for newborns under 2 weeks to eliminate any potential pathogens.
What if my baby vomits after a feed?
Record the volume vomited and inform your healthcare provider. Do not immediately doublefeed; follow their advice, which may involve reducing the next feeds volume or increasing the dilution slightly.
Is it safe to add vitamins or other supplements?
Neocate DHA & ARA already contains a complete vitamin and mineral profile. Adding extra supplements without professional advice may cause imbalances.
When to Seek Professional Guidance
- Persistent poor weight gain or weight loss.
- Signs of dehydration dry mouth, sunken fontanelle, reduced urine output.
- Frequent vomiting, diarrhea, or severe constipation.
- Any allergic reaction such as rash, swelling, or respiratory distress.
Always keep a copy of the dilution chart handy and review it with your pediatrician at each routine appointment. Proper preparation ensures your infant receives the exact nutritional balance needed for optimal growth and development.
