Overview
The New Law Student Scholarship 2022 is an initiative designed to support aspiring law students who demonstrate academic promise, community involvement, and a clear commitment to the legal profession. Funded by a partnership of law firms, bar associations, and private donors, the scholarship awards up to $5,000 per recipient to help cover tuition, books, and living expenses during the first two years of law school.
This scholarship aims to reduce financial barriers, encourage diversity within the legal field, and foster the next generation of ethically driven lawyers. Recipients are also invited to participate in mentorship programs, networking events, and pro bono projects throughout the duration of their studies.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the New Law Student Scholarship 2022, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Be admitted to a Juris Doctor (JD) program at an ABAaccredited law school in the United States for the 20222023 academic year.
- Maintain a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.3 or higher.
- Demonstrate financial need as defined by the FAFSA or equivalent documentation.
- Show evidence of leadership, community service, or involvement in activities related to law or public policy.
- Be a United States citizen, permanent resident, or hold a valid visa that permits enrollment in a U.S. law program.
Applicants who have previously received a fullride law scholarship from another source are not eligible.
Benefits of the Scholarship
Selected scholars receive:
- Financial Support: Up to $5,000 per academic year, disbursed directly to the law schools financial aid office.
- Mentorship: Pairing with a practicing attorney or judge for guidance throughout law school.

How to Apply
Applications are accepted online through the scholarship portal. The process consists of the following steps:
- Create an Account: Register with a valid email address and set a secure password.
- Complete the Personal Information Form: Provide your contact details, law school information, and enrollment status.
- Upload Required Documents:
- Official undergraduate transcript.
- Proof of admission to a JD program (admission letter).
- FAFSA or equivalent financialneed statement.
- Two letters of recommendation (one academic, one professional or communityservice oriented).
- Personal essay (1,0001,500 words) answering the prompts below.
- Personal Essay Prompts:
- Describe your motivation for pursuing a legal career and how your background has shaped this decision.
- Explain how you plan to use your legal education to benefit your community or a specific cause.
- Identify challenges you anticipate during law school and how this scholarship will help you overcome them.
- Submit Application: Review all information, consent to the terms, and click Submit. You will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours.

- Deadline for Submissions: September 30, 2022 (11:59PM ET)
- Review Period: October 1 November 15, 2022
- Notification of Recipients: December 1, 2022
- Scholarship Disbursement: January 2023 (first installment)
