Understanding the NTSE Syllabus

The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a prestigious scholarship program conducted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for students studying in Class X. The examination is designed to identify and nurture talented students across India. Success in this exam requires a comprehensive understanding of the syllabus, which is primarily divided into two sections: Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).

1. Mental Ability Test (MAT)

The MAT section assesses a students reasoning, logical thinking, and analytical skills. It does not follow a specific textbook syllabus but focuses on the ability to perceive relationships and solve problems. Key areas include:

Verbal Reasoning: Series completion, coding-decoding, blood relations, alphabet tests, analogy, classification, and direction sense.

2. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

The SAT section evaluates a student's academic knowledge based on the curriculum taught in Classes IX and X. It is categorized into three major subjects:

A. Mathematics

The mathematics syllabus covers foundational concepts that build up from Class IX to X. Important topics include:

Number Systems, Polynomials, and Linear Equations.
Quadratic Equations, Arithmetic Progressions, and Real Numbers.
Geometry: Triangles, Circles, Constructions, and Coordinate Geometry.
Trigonometry, Heights and Distances.
Mensuration: Surface Areas and Volumes.
Statistics and Probability.

B. Science

The science component is balanced across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, adhering strictly to the NCERT textbooks.

Physics: Motion, Force, Laws of Motion, Gravitation, Work and Energy, Sound, Light (Reflection and Refraction), Human Eye, and Electricity.
Chemistry: Matter in Our Surroundings, Atoms and Molecules, Structure of Atom, Chemical Reactions and Equations, Acids, Bases and Salts, Metals and Non-Metals, and Carbon and its Compounds.
Biology: The Fundamental Unit of Life, Tissues, Diversity in Living Organisms, Life Processes, Control and Coordination, Reproduction, Heredity and Evolution, and Our Environment.

C. Social Science

This section tests historical, geographical, political, and economic awareness.

History: The French Revolution, Socialism in Europe, Nazism, Nationalism in India, and The Making of a Global World.
Geography: India Size and Location, Physical Features of India, Drainage, Climate, Natural Vegetation, and Resources.
Political Science: Democracy, Constitutional Design, Electoral Politics, and Working of Institutions.
Economics: The Story of Village Palampur, People as Resource, Poverty as a Challenge, and Food Security in India.
