What is HOSA?

HOSAFuture Health Professionalsis a national organization for secondary and postsecondary students interested in healthcare careers. In Ohio, HOSA offers several meritbased scholarships that help members fund college tuition, books, and related expenses.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered, you must meet all of the following:

• Be a current Ohio HOSA member in good standing (active participation in at least one event in the past year).
• Be a graduating senior of an Ohio high school or a current Ohio college student (undergraduate level).
• Plan to pursue a degree or certificate in a healthrelated field (e.g., nursing, allied health, public health, premedicine).
• Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
• Demonstrate community service or leadership related to health care.

Types of Scholarships

Ohio HOSA offers three main categories:

• Merit Scholarship: Awarded based on academic achievement and HOSA involvement.
• Leadership Scholarship: For members who have held officer positions or led projects.
• Community Service Scholarship: Recognizes extensive volunteer work in healthrelated settings.

You may apply for more than one category, but each application must be submitted separately.

3. Official Transcript Upload a PDF from your school or college registrar.
4. Letter of Recommendation Typically from a teacher, counselor, or healthcare professional who knows you well.
5. Proof of HOSA Membership Copy of your membership card or a verification email.

Additional documents may be required for specific scholarships (e.g., a project portfolio for the Leadership Scholarship).

StepbyStep Application Process

1. Register on the Ohio HOSA Portal

Create an account using your school email address. You will receive a confirmation link; click it to activate your profile.

2. Gather Required Documents

Request transcripts early, ask teachers for recommendation letters, and download your membership verification. Keep everything in PDF format and under 5MB each.

3. Write Your Personal Statement

• Start with a compelling anecdote that sparked your interest in health care.
• Explain how HOSA activities (competitions, community projects, leadership roles) have prepared you.
• Outline clear shortterm (college) and longterm (career) goals.
• Proofread for grammar, clarity, and word count.

4. Complete the Online Form

Enter personal information, academic data, and select the scholarship(s) you are applying for. Upload each document in the designated fields.

5. Review & Submit

Doublecheck that all required fields are filled. Once you click Submit, you will receive an automated receipt email.

6. Follow Up

If any document is missing, the review committee will contact you within two weeks. Respond promptly to avoid disqualification.

After You Apply

All applications are reviewed by a panel of HOSA advisers, healthcare professionals, and educators. Selections are based on academic merit, leadership, community impact, and the quality of the personal statement.

If you are selected, you will receive an award letter detailing the amount, disbursement schedule, and any reporting requirements (e.g., a brief progress update after one semester).

Students who are not selected are encouraged to reapply next year and use feedback from the review panel to strengthen future applications.
