The Operating Engineers Local Union No.3 Academic Scholarship is a tuitionassistance program created to support the educational goals of the unions members, their children, and the broader community. Established in 1992, the scholarship has helped hundreds of students pursue highschool diplomas, associate degrees, bachelors degrees, and technical certifications in fields related to construction, engineering, and the trades.
Each year the union awards up to five scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. The amount is based on the applicants financial need, academic record, and demonstrated commitment to the values of the union hard work, safety, and community service.
Eligibility is intentionally broad so that the scholarship can reach a wide audience. Applicants must meet **one** of the following criteria:
All applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA (or equivalent).
All materials must be uploaded to the unions secure portal by the deadline. Paper submissions are not accepted.
A committee of union officers, educators, and former scholarship recipients reviews applications. The committee evaluates:
Successful candidates are notified by email in early March and must sign a scholarship agreement confirming how the funds will be applied.
