The Oregon STEM Investment Council (OSTIC) is a statewide initiative launched in 2014 with a critical mission: to increase and sustain student achievement and engagement in STEM fields to meet the growing demand for skilled workers in Oregon's innovation economy. Governed by a diverse group of leaders from education, business, industry, and government, OSTIC works to ensure that every Oregon student has access to high-quality STEM learning experiences from early childhood through higher education and into the workforce. The council addresses gaps in STEM education and creates pathways that connect academic learning with industry needs, helping to fuel Oregon's position as a hub for innovation and technological advancement. To increase preK-12 student achievement, engagement, and interest in STEM, with a focus on students underrepresented in STEM fields, through partnerships, innovation, and statewide coordination. All Oregon students are inspired and prepared to pursue and succeed in STEM education and careers, strengthening Oregon's economy and position as a leader in innovation. Addressing the unique challenges facing rural communities by enhancing STEM resources, opportunities, and support networks in Oregon's rural schools. Oregon's network of 13 regional STEM Hubs serves as the backbone of our statewide effort. Each Hub is uniquely positioned to respond to local needs and opportunities while contributing to the overall STEM education ecosystem. OSTIC continuously collects and analyzes data to assess the effectiveness of STEM initiatives and identify areas for improvement and investment. Students engaged in STEM Hub programs demonstrate increased proficiency in mathematics and science, with particularly significant gains among historically underrepresented student groups. STEM teachers participating in OSTIC-supported professional development show higher rates of job satisfaction and retention compared to state averages, especially in high-need districts. Partnerships between education and industry have grown significantly, with more than $15 million in in-kind contributions annually from businesses supporting STEM education programs. Regional STEM Hubs have become vital community resources, connecting schools with local businesses and organizations to create sustainable STEM learning ecosystems that extend beyond the classroom. The Oregon STEM Investment Council leverages a combination of public and private funding to support its mission. State appropriations provide a foundation of support, while federal grants, corporate sponsorship, foundation grants, and individual donations expand the reach and impact of STEM initiatives across the state.
