Peertechz Clinical Image Manuscript Formatting Instructions

Peertechz provides a dedicated article type called Clinical Image for the rapid communication of interesting, rare, or educational medical images. Authors must follow a concise set of formatting rules to ensure consistency, readability, and fast editorial processing. This page summarises the essential requirements for preparing a Clinical Image manuscript for submission to Peertechz.

1. General Scope and When to Use This Article Type

A Clinical Image manuscript is appropriate when the primary focus is a highquality visual representation of a clinical finding, with a brief explanatory text. Typical scenarios include:

• Rare dermatological lesions, radiological patterns, or histopathology slides.
• Unique endoscopic or intraoperative photographs.
• Illustrative imaging of uncommon presentations of common diseases.

The manuscript should not exceed 900words (including abstract, main text, and references) and must be accompanied by no more than three figures.

2. Article Structure

All Clinical Image submissions follow the same logical layout, but the sections are markedly shortened compared with full research articles.

Section	Content Requirement
Title	Clear, concise, and descriptive (120 characters). Include the word Image if appropriate.
Authors & Affiliations	Full names, ORCID iDs, and institutional addresses. Corresponding author email required.
Abstract	Unstructured, maximum 150words. State the clinical context, key image finding, and its importance.
Keywords	Three to six terms, capitalised, separated by commas.
Introduction	One short paragraph (100words) describing why the image is noteworthy.
Case Presentation / Image Description	Up to 400words. Include patient demographics (age, sex), relevant history, examination, investigations, and concise discussion of the image.
Discussion	One paragraph (150words) placing the image in the context of current literature.
Conclusion	One sentence summarising the teaching point or clinical relevance.
References	Maximum of five recent (5years) peerreviewed citations, formatted in Vancouver style.
Figures	Up to three highresolution images (minimum 300dpi). Each must have a descriptive legend (80words).
Ethical Statement	Confirm informed consent from the patient (or legal guardian) for image publication.

3. Formatting Details

3.1 Font and Spacing

• Font: Times New Roman, 12point for the main text.
• Line spacing: 1.5 lines throughout.
• Margins: 2cm on all sides.
• Paragraphs: Leftaligned, no indentation, a blank line between paragraphs.

3.2 Title Page

Provide a separate title page containing only the title, author list, affiliations, and correspondingauthor contact details. Do not include any part of the manuscript text on this page.

3.3 Abstract and Keywords

The abstract appears on the first page of the manuscript after the title page. Keywords follow the abstract and are placed on a new line, preceded by the word Keywords: in bold.

3.4 InText Citations

Use numbered brackets in the order of appearance, e.g., [1]. Do not use superscript style.

3.5 References

List references numerically at the end of the manuscript. Example format:

[1] Smith J, Doe A. Unusual presentation of cutaneous sarcoidosis. Dermatol Rev. 2022;34(2):115120.

3.6 Figures and Legends

• Insert each figure after the reference list, preceded by FigureX.
• Legends start with a brief title (italicised) followed by a concise explanation.
• All patientidentifying features must be masked.

3.7 Tables (if required)

Tables are discouraged for Clinical Images but may be used for brief laboratory data. Format tables as shown in the style above, with a concise title above the table.

4. Ethical Considerations

Authors must obtain written informed consent from the patient (or a legally authorised representative) before submission. The consent form should be retained by the authors and made available to the editorial office upon request. If the image is completely anonymised and the patient cannot be identified, a statement confirming that consent is not required may be included.

5. Submission Process

1. Prepare the manuscript in a single MSWord (.doc/.docx) file, adhering strictly to the guidelines above.
2. Upload the file and individual highresolution figure files (TIFF, JPEG, or PNG) through the Peertechz online submission system.
3. Complete the mandatory checklist, confirming originality, authorship, and ethical compliance.
4. Provide the patient consent document (PDF) in the Supporting Information section.
5. Click Submit. You will receive an automated acknowledgement within 24hours.

6. Common Reasons for Immediate Rejection

• Exceeding word or figure limits.
• Missing or incomplete patient consent.
• Poor image quality (resolution <300dpi, inadequate lighting, or overexposure).
• Failure to mask identifiable features.
• Nonclinical content (e.g., purely artistic photographs).

7. PostAcceptance Requirements

After acceptance, the Production team will request:

• Highresolution (minimum 600dpi) final figure files.
• A signed copyright transfer form.
• Confirmation that the article adheres to the full author guidelines.

The final PDF will be posted online within two weeks of receipt of the above items.
