The Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council (Pharmexcil) is the official agency of the Government of India responsible for promoting pharmaceutical exports from the country. Pharmexcil's scope encompasses promotion of exports across various pharmaceutical categories including formulations, bulk drugs, intermediates, herbal products, and Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) products. By coordinating efforts between industry stakeholders and government agencies, Pharmexcil works towards creating an enabling environment for pharmaceutical exports from India.

India's pharmaceutical exports have shown consistent growth, driven by factors such as cost competitiveness, skilled workforce, strong manufacturing capabilities, and increasing compliance with international quality standards. The country supplies approximately 50% of Africa's requirement for generics, 40% of generic demand in the US and 25% of all medicine in the UK.
