Program Overview

Over 9 months, students will learn pharmacy calculations, medication preparation, prescription processing, pharmacology, pharmacy law and ethics, and medication safety. The program culminates in a 160-hour clinical externship at a participating pharmacy, giving students real-world experience in various pharmacy settings including retail, hospital, and specialty pharmacies.
Our curriculum aligns with national certification requirements, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT).
Curriculum Highlights
Pharmacy Fundamentals
Learn the basics of pharmacy practice, including pharmacy terminology, history, and the roles and responsibilities of pharmacy technicians within the healthcare system.
Pharmaceutical Calculations
Master mathematical calculations essential to pharmacy practice, including dosage calculations, IV flow rates, dilution and concentration calculations, and compounding measurements.
Pharmacology
Study medications by drug class, mechanism of action, indications, contraindications, side effects, and drug interactions.
Pharmacy Law and Ethics
Understand federal and state laws governing pharmacy practice, professional ethics, and the legal responsibilities of pharmacy technicians.
Medication Safety

Clinical Externship
The clinical externship is a vital component of our Pharmacy Technician Certificate Program, providing students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge in real-world pharmacy settings. During the 160-hour externship, students will work under the supervision of licensed pharmacists, gaining valuable hands-on experience in various pharmacy operations.
Externship sites may include retail pharmacies, hospital pharmacies, long-term care facilities, mail-order pharmacies, and specialty pharmacies. During the externship, students will assist in prescription processing and dispensing, prepare and compound medications, manage inventory, interact with patients and healthcare providers, and gain experience with pharmacy software systems.

- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum age of 18 years
- Completion of basic college-level math course or equivalent
- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and comprehension)
- Valid government-issued photo ID
- Completed application form

- Immunization records as required for clinical placement
- Background check and drug screening (required for clinical placement)
Program Schedule
Our Pharmacy Technician Certificate Program is offered in both full-time and part-time formats to accommodate students' various scheduling needs.
Full-Time Option
Complete the program in 9 months with classes held Monday through Friday during daytime hours. This option is ideal for students who can commit to a traditional student schedule.
Part-Time Option
Complete the program in 12-15 months with classes held during evening and weekend hours. This option accommodates working students or those with daytime commitments.
Both options include the same curriculum requirements and clinical externship hours.
