Course Overview
The B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) marks the point at which learners become confident, independent users of Polish. This course is designed for students who already have a solid B1 foundation and are ready to tackle more complex grammar, expand their vocabulary, and develop critical language skills needed for work, study, or living in Poland.
By the end of the program, participants will be able to:
- Understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics.
- Interact with native speakers with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular conversation effortless.
- Produce clear, detailed written work on a wide range of subjects.
- Discuss opinions, argue points of view and defend a position in a structured way.
Curriculum Highlights
Grammar
At B2, grammar work becomes subtler. The course covers:
- Advanced use of aspectual nuances perfective vs. imperfective in more sophisticated contexts.
- Conditional sentences (real, unreal, and mixed conditions).
- Complex nounphrase constructions, including genitive of negation and partitive.
- Indirect speech with tense shifting and mood variations.
- Relative clauses, participial and adjectival clauses, and usage of e vs. eby.
- Subjunctive mood and modal verbs for speculation, doubt and obligation.
Vocabulary
Vocabulary work emphasizes thematic depth and collocations:
- Media and journalism headlines, editorials, interviews.
- Business and economics contracts, negotiations, financial reports.
- Culture and society literature, cinema, folklore, contemporary debates.
- Science & technology environmental issues, digital innovation, health.
- Idiomatic expressions, proverbs, and registerappropriate language.
Reading & Listening
Materials are authentic and varied:
- Newspaper articles (e.g., Gazeta Wyborcza, Rzeczpospolita).
- Short stories and excerpts from classic and modern Polish literature.
- Audio recordings of lectures, podcasts, and radio debates.
- Film clips and TV news segments for comprehension of spoken idioms.
Speaking
Interactive practice is central. Activities include:
- Roleplays job interviews, customer service, academic presentations.
- Debates on social and political topics, encouraging argumentation skills.
- Group projects that require planning, reporting, and peer feedback.
- Pronunciation drills focusing on intonation patterns and stress.
Writing
Students produce a range of texts:
- Formal letters, emails, and reports.
- Essays with clear thesis, supporting arguments and conclusions.
- Creative pieces short stories, reviews, and blog posts.
- Summaries of complex readings, highlighting ability to synthesize information.
Course Structure & Schedule
The program runs for 12 weeks, with two 90minute sessions per week. Each week follows a consistent pattern:
- Session 1 (Monday): Introduction of new grammar/vocabulary, listening activity, and guided reading.
- Session 2 (Thursday): Speaking practice, writing workshop, and group discussion.
In addition to classroom time, students are encouraged to complete 34 hours of selfstudy per week using the online portal, which offers supplemental exercises, flashcards, and video explanations.
Assessment & Certification
Progress is tracked through continuous assessment rather than a single exam:
- Midterm portfolio (Week 6): Collection of written assignments, recorded speaking tasks, and a reading log.
- Final project (Week 12): A 1,200word essay on a chosen topic plus a 10minute oral presentation.
- Quizzes: Short, weekly quizzes on grammar and vocab to keep knowledge fresh.
Successful completion awards a Certificate of Polish Language B2 Level, recognized by many Polish universities and employers.
