Shivaji University, located in the historic city of Kolhapur, Maharashtra, is a staterun institution established in 1961. Historical Background

The idea of a university in Kolhapur emerged during the postindependence era, when the regional government identified a need for a centre of learning that could address both the social and economic challenges of the region. With the generous support of the Maharaja of Kolhapur and the endorsement of the Indian Parliament, Shivaji University was formally inaugurated on 12January1962.
