Southeast Gas Community Service Scholarship

The Southeast Gas Community Service Scholarship (SGCSS) is a meritbased award established to recognize and support students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to community service. Funded by Southeast Gas, the scholarship aims to reduce financial barriers for collegebound students, empower them to achieve their educational goals, and encourage a spirit of civic engagement.

Who Is Eligible?

  • Residency: Must be a legal resident of the Southeast Gas service area (primarily the Four Corners region of Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Colorado).
  • Education Level: Highschool seniors planning to enroll in an accredited college or university, or current undergraduate students completing their sophomore year.
  • Academic Standing: Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Community Service: At least 30 documented hours of volunteer work within the past two years.
  • Citizenship: U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

What Does the Scholarship Cover?

Each award provides a onetime payment of $2,500 that can be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or other approved educational expenses. In some years, Southeast Gas may increase the award amount or provide additional funds for outstanding candidates.

Application Process

1. Gather Required Documents

  • Completed application form (available on the official website).
  • Official highschool transcript or college transcript.
  • Proof of community service (e.g., letters from supervisors, volunteer logs).
  • Two letters of recommendation one from a teacher or counselor, another from a community leader or employer.
