Introduction

The field of language sciences encompasses a broad spectrum of disciplines, including linguistics, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, computational linguistics, neurolinguistics, and language acquisition. As interdisciplinary collaborations intensify and new methodological approaches emerge, there is a growing need for focused venues that synthesize cuttingedge work, highlight emerging trends, and foster dialogue across subfields. This special issue aims to provide such a venue, offering scholars a platform to present innovative research that pushes the boundaries of our understanding of language in its cognitive, social, and technological dimensions.

Rationale and Objectives

The primary objectives of this special issue are:

• To showcase highquality, original research that addresses theoretical and empirical questions central to language sciences.
• To encourage submissions that bridge traditional disciplinary boundaries, integrating insights from cognition, neuroscience, computation, and society.
• To highlight methodological innovations, such as multimodal corpora, neuroimaging techniques, machinelearning models, and experimental designs that enhance the rigor and reproducibility of language research.
• To foster a constructive discussion on the ethical, social, and technological implications of language studies, especially in the context of AIdriven language technologies and multilingual societies.

While the call is open to all topics within language sciences, the editors particularly welcome contributions that align with the following themes:

1. Cognitive and Neural Mechanisms of Language

Studies investigating how language is processed, represented, and produced in the brain, including work on lexical access, syntactic integration, semantics, pragmatics, and bilingualism.

2. Language Acquisition and Development

Research on firstlanguage, secondlanguage, and multilingual acquisition across the lifespan, encompassing atypical development, language disorders, and the interplay between input, interaction, and innate capacities.

3. Sociolinguistics and Language Variation

Analyses of language use in social contexts, dialectal variation, language change, identity construction, and the impact of globalization and digital communication on linguistic practices.

4. Computational Linguistics and Language Technology

Advances in natural language processing, speech recognition, machine translation, and language modeling, especially studies that link computational models with psycholinguistic or neurolinguistic findings.

5. Multimodal and Embodied Language

Investigations of how language interacts with gesture, gaze, facial expression, and other bodily signals, as well as research on sign languages and visualspatial modalities.

6. Ethics, Policy, and Language Technology

Discussions on the responsible development and deployment of language technologies, issues of bias, privacy, accessibility, and the socioeconomic consequences of languagerelated AI systems.
