What is the SSC CPO Exam?

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Central Police Officer (CPO) exam to recruit Assistant SubInspectors, SubInspectors, and Inspectors for various central police organisations such as the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), IndoTibetan Border Police (ITBP), and others. The exam is a threestage selection process:

  • TierI: Objective (multiplechoice) paper

Syllabus TierI (Objective)

The TierI paper is 100marks, 100 questions, 60minutes. It consists of four sections:

  • General Intelligence & Reasoning analogies, series, puzzles, spatial ability, etc.
  • General Awareness current affairs, history, geography, economics, science & tech, Indian polity, and sports.
  • Quantitative Aptitude arithmetic, algebra, geometry, data interpretation, and basic statistics.
  • English Language vocabulary, grammar, synonyms/antonyms, comprehension, and sentence correction.

Syllabus TierII (Descriptive)

The TierII paper is 200marks, 2 hours. It contains two compulsory sections:

  • Essay write an essay of 250300 words on a given topic.
  • Letter/Report Writing one letter and one report or a notice/official email, each 150200 words.

Exam Pattern and Scoring

TierI 100 multiplechoice questions; each correct answer carries 1 mark. No negative marking.

TierII 200 marks, descriptive answer key. Marks are awarded based on content, structure, language, and relevance.

TierIII Physical Standard Test (PST) includes Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Endurance Test (PET). Candidates scoring minimum in PST qualify for the interview.

Only candidates who clear all three tiers are considered for final selection.
