Student Enterprise Programme

Empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs with skills, knowledge, and practical experience to build successful businesses.

About the Programme

The Student Enterprise Programme is a comprehensive initiative designed to foster entrepreneurial skills and business acumen among students from across various educational institutions. Established in 2015, the programme has successfully guided over 5,000 students through the journey of transforming innovative ideas into viable business concepts.

Our curriculum combines theoretical knowledge with practical application, providing participants with hands-on experience in all aspects of business development. From idea generation to market launch, our students work alongside industry professionals who mentor them through each stage of the entrepreneurial process.

The programme operates on a one-year cycle, beginning in September with idea development workshops and culminating in a grand showcase each May where student teams present their businesses to potential investors, industry experts, and the wider community.

Benefits of Participation

Business Skills Development

Participants acquire essential business skills including financial planning, marketing strategy, operations management, and product development. These transferrable skills valuable both for future entrepreneurs and those entering traditional employment.

Mentorship from Industry Experts

Each student team is paired with experienced business mentors who provide guidance, feedback, and industry insights. Our mentor network includes successful entrepreneurs, business leaders, and subject matter experts from various sectors.

Networking Opportunities

The programme connects students with a diverse network of fellow entrepreneurs, potential investors, business leaders, and alumni. These connections often lead to partnerships, investment opportunities, and valuable professional relationships that extend beyond the programme.

Funding Opportunities

Certified businesses receive seed funding up to $5,000 to develop their concept. Additionally, competitive grant opportunities are available throughout the programme, with exceptional teams receiving up to $25,000 in follow-on funding.

Real-World Experience

Students tackle real business challenges and develop practical solutions. This hands-on approach develops critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and resilience qualities essential for success in any career path.

Academic Recognition

For participating universities, the programme offers academic credit options equivalent to one elective course. This formal recognition acknowledges the significant learning and development that occurs during the entrepreneurial journey.

Programme Timeline

1

Application and Selection (September)

Students from participating institutions submit applications describing their business ideas. A panel of industry experts and programme directors select the most promising concepts for inclusion in the programme. Successful applicants form teams (typically 3-5 students) to develop their ideas.

2

Workshop Phase (October-December)

Intensive workshops cover essential business topics including market research, value proposition design, business planning, financial modeling, and pitching methodology. Teams begin developing their minimum viable product and validating their business model assumptions.

3

Development Phase (January-March)

Teams work intensively on their business concepts with regular guidance from their assigned mentors. This phase focuses on product refinement, market testing, financial planning, and preparation for the final showcase. Teams receive feedback through multiple review checkpoints.

4

Pre-Showcase Preparation (April)

Teams finalize their business presentations, refine pitch decks, and prepare for potential investor questions. A dress rehearsal provides extensive feedback as teams prepare for the final showcase event.

5

Final Showcase and Awards (May)

The programme culminates with an all-day exhibition and pitch competition where teams present their businesses to judges, investors, industry representatives, and the general public. Awards recognize achievement in various categories including innovation, social impact, best pitch, and overall excellence.
