Overview
The SVQ (Scottish Vocational Qualification) in Achieving Excellence in Sports Performance Level3 is a nationally recognised programme designed for individuals who wish to develop the technical, tactical, physiological and psychological skills required to work at a highperformance level in sport. It sits between the introductory Level2 and the professionallevel Level4 and bridges the gap between amateur involvement and a career in elite sport environments.

Structure & Core Content
The Level3 qualification is divided into three units, each delivering a specific set of competencies.
Unit 1 Planning and Delivering Structured Training Sessions (60GLH)
- Analyse athlete profiles and performance data.
- Design periodised training plans aligned to competition calendars.
- Implement session structures that integrate technical, tactical and conditioning elements.
Unit 2 Monitoring, Evaluation and Feedback (45GLH)

- Provide constructive, evidencebased feedback to athletes and coaching staff.
Unit 3 Professional Conduct and Development (30GLH)

- Maintain a reflective professional portfolio and create a personal development plan.
Each unit incorporates a mixture of classroom instruction, elearning modules, and guided practice through a workplace placement (minimum 150 hours) in a recognised sports setting.
Assessment Methods
Assessment is competencybased and aims to verify that learners can integrate theory with practice.
- Written assignments research essays, casestudy analyses and planning documents (30%).
- Practical demonstrations onfield coaching drills, session delivery and use of monitoring technology (40%).
- Portfolio of evidence logs of training sessions, data reports, reflective journals and feedback forms (30%).
All assessors are required to be certified by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and must provide clear criteria, feedback and an opportunity for resubmission where necessary.
