Overview
The Swedish Institute (SI) offers the Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals (SISGP) to attract highlymotivated, talented individuals from around the world who wish to pursue masters programmes at Swedish universities. The program is part of Swedens effort to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by developing future leaders who can drive change in their home countries.
Each year, a limited number of scholarshipstypically 150 to 200are awarded. They cover tuition fees, living expenses, travel costs and a weekly insurance fee. The scholarships are fully funded, allowing scholars to focus on their studies and professional development.
Eligibility
To be considered for the SISGP, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Hold a bachelors degree (or equivalent) completed no earlier than June30of the year before the application deadline.
- Be a citizen of a country that is a member of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) or a country eligible under the SISGP list (the list is published each year on the SI website).
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the local equivalent).
- Demonstrate proficiency in English (IELTS6.5, TOEFLiBT90, or equivalent).
- Show a strong commitment to returning to your home country after graduation and contributing to its development.
Scholarship Benefits
The SISGP provides a comprehensive package that includes:
- Tuition fee waiver for the full duration of the masters programme (usually 2 years).
- Monthly living allowance of SEK10,000 (US$1,070) for up to 24 months.
- Travel grant up to SEK15,000 (US$1,600) for a roundtrip flight between the scholars home country and Sweden.
- Weekly insurance fee of SEK550 (US$60) to cover health and accident insurance.
- Access to SIs extensive network of alumni, mentors, and professional development workshops.
Note: The scholarship does not cover personal expenses such as family visits, private accommodation upgrades, or optional courses.
Application Process
The application is submitted online through the Swedish Institutes portal. Follow these steps:
- Create an account on the SI application portal.
- Upload a completed application form (PDF).
- Provide scanned copies of your academic transcripts, diploma, and
results. - Submit a personal statement (max 1,500 words) outlining your career goals, how the Swedish masters programme aligns with them, and your plans to contribute to the SDGs in your home country.
- Include two reference lettersone academic and one professional.
- Enter the programme of choice (selected from the list of SIapproved masters programmes).
- Pay the nonrefundable application fee (usually 30).
- Review and submit the application before the deadline.
After submission, the selection committee evaluates applications based on academic merit, leadership potential, and relevance to the SDGs. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for a video interview.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I apply for more than one masters programme?
No. Each applicant may select only one programme per application cycle.
What if I change my programme after arriving in Sweden?
Any change must be approved by the Swedish Institute and the host university; otherwise the scholarship may be revoked.
Do I have to work for a Swedish employer after graduation?
No. The obligation is to return to your home country and apply the knowledge gained towards its development.
Is family accompaniment allowed?
