The Artificer Apprenticeship programme and the Senior Secondary Recruit training track are designed to develop technical expertise, problemsolving abilities, and professional readiness for careers in advanced engineering, manufacturing, and technology sectors. The syllabus below outlines the core modules, learning outcomes, assessment methods, and recommended resources for each pathway.
1. Common Foundations
Both apprentices and senior recruits share a set of foundational subjects that establish a solid base in mathematics, science, and technical communication.

2. Artificer Apprenticeship Programme

2.1 Year1 Core Technical Skills
- Fundamentals of Materials Science identification, testing, and selection.
- Basic Machining Operations lathe, milling, drilling, safety procedures.
- Introduction to Electrical Systems circuits, wiring, basic troubleshooting.
- ComputerAided Design (2D) drawing standards, dimensioning, Tdrawing.
2.2 Year2 Intermediate Systems
- Advanced CNC Programming Gcode, toolpath optimisation, simulation.
- Hydraulics & Pneumatics theory, schematic reading, system integration.
- Power & Control PLC basics, ladder logic, sensor interfacing.
- 3D Modelling (SolidWorks/Inventor) part modelling, assemblies, basic rendering.
2.3 Year3 Specialisation & Project Management

- Quality Assurance & Metrology CMM operation, Gage R&R, ISO 9001 basics.
- Project Planning Gantt charts, risk analysis, cost estimating.
- Capstone Project design, prototype, test, and document a functional artefact.
2.4 Assessment
Each year consists of written examinations (40%), practical competency tests (40%) and a reflective portfolio (20%). Successful completion awards the National Artificer Qualification (NAQ) Level 3.
3. Senior Secondary Recruit Training
This track targets senior secondary students (Year1112) who intend to pursue technical careers after graduation. It runs for two academic semesters and integrates classroom theory with handson workshops.
3.1 Semester1 Technical Foundations
- Engineering Drawing orthographic projection, sectioning, GD&T.
- Basic Electronics resistors, capacitors, diodes, introductory microcontrollers.
- Materials & Processes metalworking, polymers, additive manufacturing basics.
- Safety & Environmental Practices PPE, waste management, fire safety.
3.2 Semester2 Applied Projects
- TeamBased Design Challenge conceptualise, design, and build a functional prototype.
- Introduction to Programming Python for automation, simple UI design.
- Industrial Automation sensors, actuators, basic PLC ladder logic.
- Career Development CV writing, interview techniques, industry visits.
3.3 Assessment
Assessment is conducted via continuous coursework (45%), a final design project (35%) and a written test (20%). Completion earns the Senior Technical Recruit Certificate (STRC) and eligibility for direct entry into apprenticeship programmes or related diplomas.

- Apply directly to entrylevel technical positions in fabrication, maintenance, or automation.
