Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL)

Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) is a framework for understanding language that views it as a social semiotic system. • Tenor: The social relationships between the participants. Are they equal, unequal, familiar, or distant?
• Mode: The channel of communication. Is it spoken, written, or a combination (like a text message or a social media post)?
