Takeda Intestinal Failure & Surgical Nutrition Fellowship

Program Overview

The Takeda Intestinal Failure & Surgical Nutrition Fellowship is a oneyear, fully funded clinical and research experience designed for gastroenterology, surgery, and nutrition specialists who want to become leaders in the care of patients with short bowel syndrome, highoutput stomas, and other forms of intestinal failure. Fellows will work alongside worldrenowned clinicians at Takedas designated centers of excellence in the United States, Europe, and Asia.

Key components include:

• Intensive clinical rotations in intestinal rehabilitation, parenteral nutrition (PN) management, and metabolic monitoring.
• Handson training in surgical techniques such as bowel lengthening, autologous reconstruction, and intestinal transplantation evaluation.
• Mentored research projects focusing on innovative therapies, healtheconomic outcomes, and qualityoflife metrics.
• Professional development workshops covering grant writing, leadership, and interdisciplinary communication.

Curriculum Highlights

Clinical Rotations (40 weeks)

• Intestinal Rehabilitation Unit assessment, PN titration, and weaning strategies.
• Surgical Service operative planning for bowel reconstruction, stoma revision, and transplant referrals.
• Metabolic Clinic management of electrolyte, micronutrient, and bone health issues.
• Pediatric Interface exposure to pediatric intestinal failure programs (optional).

Research Experience (12 weeks)

Each fellow designs a project under the guidance of a senior investigator. Projects may be clinical, translational, or healthservices oriented. Expected deliverables include a manuscript submission and a poster presentation at a national meeting.

Professional Development (continuous)

• Monthly journal clubs with senior faculty.
• Quarterquarter workshops on ethics, regulatory affairs, and entrepreneurship.
• Leadership shadowing with Takedas Global Nutrition Strategy team.

Eligibility & Application Process

Eligibility

• Boardeligible or boardcertified physicians in gastroenterology, surgery, or clinical nutrition.
• Minimum of two years of posttraining clinical experience.
• Demonstrated interest in intestinal failure or PN through publications, presentations, or clinical work.
• US citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work visa for the host country.

• Three letters of reference, at least one from a specialist in intestinal failure.
• Copy of board certification and medical license.
• Optional: abstract of a recent research project or manuscript.
